Caring for Your Leather
Interested in learning how to care for your LeatherSilkMore product? Here is a quick and easy leather cleaning and care routine you can follow to ensure your product stays as good as new.
Clean Once a Week or As Needed
To remove small scratches, use a clean fingertip to gently rub out the scratch. The natural oils in your skin will remove most small scratches. To remove dirt, grime or surface residue, use a soft, damp (not wet) cloth. Gently rub - don't scrub - for removal. For a deeper clean, we suggest using something like Leather Cleaner, that will help preserve the natural lubricating oils instead of stripping them. The cleaner you choose should not contain caustic chemicals, harmful abrasives or leave any greasy residue behind. Before applying anything to your leather item, be sure to test in a hidden area to ensure the cleaner is compatible with the leather. Once you've decided whether the leather care product is acceptable, gently apply with a soft, clean cloth & follow the instructions of your selected leather care product. Please note we do not suggest using our leather cleaner on our Berlin, Double Sided, Nubuck, and Unlined leather collections.
Condition Once Every Six Months
To preserve your leather texture and keep it looking supple, use an all-natural leather conditioner, such as Leather Conditioner. As always, test the conditioner in a hidden area with a soft, clean cloth to ensure the conditioner is compatible with the leather. Once you've decided whether the leather care product is acceptable, follow the instructions of your selected leather care product. Please note we do not suggest using our leather conditioner on our Berlin, Double Sided, Nubuck, and Unlined leather collections.
How to Store Leather
Remember that leather is a natural material and should be stored in a breathable bag, not plastic, to prevent the growth of mildew and bacteria. For handbags and travel bags, store in the provided dust bag when not in use and stuff the item with tissue or soft fabric. Doing these two things will keep the bag shape correct and protect the leather over time. To prevent creases from forming in your leather over time, make sure not to rest anything on top of the leather, and to not let it fold on itself unnecessarily. Last, but not least, please always store leather in a cool, dry place.
For Unexpected Stains, Marks, and Color Transfer
If your leather gets wet, wipe it dry as soon as possible and store your item upright and stuffed with dry fabric (for handbags/toiletry bags/travel bags) while it airs out. For small scratches, gently rub your finger over the mark until it minimizes. The natural oil in your skin will naturally condition the mark out over time. You can also use our leather cleaner/conditioner to reduce the appearances of scratches. To prevent color transfer onto your leather, please take extra care when using your colored and black leather products near light-colored fabric (or vice-versa) as color may rub off over time and use. This is especially true in humid or damp weather. For lining care, spot treat with a baby wipe or damp cloth to minimize stains.
